On the 24-25 of June 500 elders from around the country for the Kaumatua Kapa Haka which was the last for the Matariki Festival.
Te papa's first Matariki Ritual
On Friday 16 June 2017 Te papa held it's first ritual which was the beginning of the Matariki rising Festival. People from all around the globe gather together to share stories, celebrate life and also remember those who passed in the last year.

The Matariki Festival is such a great way to celebrate and remember the Maori New Year! I think I would watch the Kaumata Kapahaka too - I am always in awe when I watch them as they are so powerful!
