Summer Learning Journey Week 2 Day 4 Bonus Activity

Bonus Activity: Women at Work
Both men and women served in World War II. Many women choose to enlist as nurses and be stationed overseas caring for wounded soldiers. My nana was one of those nurses. She (Dorothy) spent much of World War II working on a large Red Cross ship that was stationed off the coast of Cairo, Egypt.

For this activity, you are going to imagine that you are just like Dorothy and that you are working as a nurse on a large medical ship.

Complete the story provided above. To earn full points you must write, at least, 8-10 sentences. What happens next?

One day you are walking along the deck of the ship when you hear a loud bang. You start to run as you see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. You run towards the room where your patients are waiting to receive treatment from the doctor. Just as you arrive at the door to their room you hear another loud bang and you…

Rushed into the doctor's office and you see him calmly taking care of a patient. You came out of the blue and started screaming as if his head was about to fall off. You shouted "There is Smoke coming from the far end of the ship everyone needs to evacuate to the emergency exit now". The doctor looks at you with a blank stare, he looks straight at you with no hesitation as if he is going to possess you. He quickly bolted out of the room and warned the other patients and doctors to evacuate this area. Everyone had a quick look at the end of the ship just for a split second and then Bang! . The control room blew up all of a sudden. As that happened the ship split in half. It was much more safer on the front part of the ship but as you look at the other half it was sinking. You had no idea what to do but to jump onto the other side. You were able to make it to the other side. Everyone were panicking with no brain at all on what to do. You couldn't help them swim over to the other side there wouldn't be enough time to do that. Until..... To be Continue!

Kia ora Sarah!

Great story writing! I was left in shock when you said that the ship split i half. All I thought of was disaster; everyone will sink and drown or have to swim to safety. What did the people in the other half of the ship do? Did they sink with the ship?

I love that you leave you end with "to be continued" and leave us in suspense and wondering what will happen next! I wonder...

Nicky :)
